Promote arts & culture as part of solution to policy makers.
Research supports that Florida’s arts and culture industry provides greater revenue returns to local and state governments ($5 for every $1 invested); builds and diversifies the economy; preserves and creates jobs; increases student achievement; revitalizes downtowns; expands tourism; improves health and wellness; prevents crime; attracts and retains new businesses; and enhances quality of life. Florida’s arts and culture industry delivers more than $446.5 million in local and state government revenue; generates over $3.1 billion in local economic activity; and supports over 88,326 full-time equivalent jobs.
Help restore Florida's investment in arts & culture grants.
In 2006-2007, the Florida Legislature invested $34.4 million in annual appropriations for the long-established matching arts and culture grants’ programs administered by the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs — a fraction of one-percent of Florida’s annual budget. In 2013-2014, Florida invested $9.3 million in these grants’ programs — a 73% reduction. The elimination of the Cultural Institutions Trust Fund, which was a dedicated revenue source for arts and culture grants; the turnover caused by the eight-year term limits on legislators; and a Governor-appointed and not-elected Secretary of State present major challenges to sustain Florida's commitment to and investments in these well-established arts and culture grants’ programs. There is always the need to educate and inform candidates and legislators about the value of Florida’s arts and culture industry.
Provide leadership, influence, and a positive impact on the 2014 elections.
State funding and policy support are critical to sustain and build the capacity of Florida’s arts and culture resources, which contribute to Florida’s overall economic and qualitative development. The Florida PAC for Arts & Culture serves as a leader to help the arts and culture industry remain a player in the political arena of state government.
The Florida PAC for Arts & Culture
● identifies candidates who demonstrate leadership for state funding and forward-thinking policies for arts & culture;
